Trouble Sleeping on a GLP-1
Plenty of people on GLP-1 and tirzepatide medications say their sleep gets worse at some point. Insomnia is not one of the reactions listed in the Zepbound label's weight-loss trial tables, so it is worth looking at what else could be going on.
Why It Happens
Night-time nausea, reflux, bathroom trips, hunger or very low evening intake, and the stress of big body changes can all disrupt sleep. This is general information, not a diagnosis.
Practical Strategies
- Finish your last meal a few hours before bed and avoid lying flat right after eating.
- If reflux wakes you up, see our acid reflux guide.
- Keep a steady bedtime and wake time, even on weekends.
- Limit caffeine after noon and alcohol in the evening.
- Keep the bedroom cool, dark, and quiet.
- Tell your clinician if sleep is poor for more than a few weeks, or if you snore loudly or stop breathing at night.

Questions to Ask Your Clinician
Bring these to your next appointment. Your prescriber is your best resource for decisions specific to your situation.
- “Could my sleep problems be related to my medication, my dose timing, or something else?”
- “Should I be screened for sleep apnea?”
- “Is it safe for me to use a sleep aid or supplement with my other medications?”
- “Could my evening eating pattern be affecting my sleep?”
