Bloating and Gas on a GLP-1
Bloating, gas, and burping are common on GLP-1 medications. For many people they are most noticeable in the first weeks and after dose changes. In Zepbound's weight-loss trials, 4% to 5% of adults reported belching and 3% to 4% reported abdominal distension.
Why It Happens
Slower stomach emptying means food and air sit longer before moving along. Constipation, big meals, carbonated drinks, and some fibers can add to it.
Practical Strategies
- Eat slowly and keep portions small. Swallowing less air helps too.
- Skip carbonated drinks and straws if they make you gassy.
- Add fiber gradually, since a sudden jump can make gas worse.
- Gentle walking after meals helps some people.
- Watch for trigger foods, and keep a quick note for a week to spot patterns.
- If bloating comes with constipation or pain, see our constipation guide and talk to your prescriber.

Questions to Ask Your Clinician
Bring these to your next appointment. Your prescriber is your best resource for decisions specific to your situation.
- “Is my bloating normal for my dose, or something to investigate?”
- “Could a supplement I take be adding to it?”
- “Are gas or enzyme products safe for me?”
- “What symptoms should send me in for evaluation?”
